Suno and Udio read every character as lyric content. A line of βAm F C Gβ becomes sung syllables or noise. Inline chords like β[Am]β or trailing βCmaj7β also pollute the prompt.
Enable Remove standalone chord lines. LyricPrep detects lines that contain only chord tokens (AβG with optional #/b, maj/min/m/sus/add, extensions, slash chords, N.C.). Those lines are dropped; your words stay.
Enable Remove inline chords. Bracketed chords [Am], short tokens after words, and common chord abbreviations are stripped while preserving the surrounding lyric text.
The detector covers the chord vocabulary used in real lead sheets and chord sites:
A naive remover would eat real lyrics. "Am I dreaming?" starts with Am β but it's a word, not a chord. LyricPrep only treats a line as a chord line when every token on it is a chord, and only strips inline chords in bracketed or clearly-notated positions. Short English words ("a", "am", "as", "be", "do") are never removed from lyric lines. If a line mixes words and chords ("I remember [Am] the nights"), the words stay and only the bracketed chord goes.
Am F C G I remember the nights [Am] When you held me close Fmaj7 (CHORUS x2) I can't forget you... Am
β
I remember the nights When you held me close [Chorus] I can't forget you...
(Section tags standardized and repeat markers cleaned in the same pass when those options are on.)
Most messy lyrics weren't written messy β they were copied from somewhere that needed the chords:
.cho / .pro format puts chords in square brackets inside the lyric line: [Am]I remember [F]the nights. Great for musicians, terrible for Suno.LyricPrep's two chord removers map to these sources: "standalone chord lines" handles tab-site pastes, "inline chords" handles ChordPro and bracket styles. Run both and you're covered.
Inline chords appear in a few dialects. LyricPrep recognizes them all:
[Am], [Cmaj7] β the ChordPro standard.F held me close" β a chord sitting between words with spaces around it.(G) occasionally used in plain-text sheets. After removal, double spaces are collapsed so "When you held me close" becomes "When you held me close" β no tell-tale gaps left behind.
No. Single short words inside lyric lines are preserved β only lines made entirely of chord tokens, or chords in brackets/standard notation, are removed.
Yes β slash chords, extensions (maj7, sus4, add9), accidentals (#/b), and N.C. markings are all recognized.
Yes. Uncheck both chord options and leave tag standardization on β useful when preparing a lead sheet rather than AI lyrics.
No. Everything runs locally in your browser, so there are no credits, queues, or per-day caps.
Lines like "Capo 3" or "Tuning: DADGAD" aren't chords, so the chord removers leave them alone. Delete them manually before generating β the model will try to sing anything left in the lyrics box.
Yes, manually. Fret diagrams made of dashes and numbers ("e|--0--|") aren't recognized as chord lines. Strip them in the input panel before cleaning, or they'll end up vocalized as gibberish.
